A written statement issued from President Dervis Eroglu’s office, said that the TRNC gives great importance to the protection of cultural heritage monuments, reminding everyone that restoration work on Apostolos Andreas monastery in the Karpaz peninsula continues.
According to the written statement, the TRNC continues to support the restoration work. Within the framework of the protocol signed between the United Nations Development Programme Partnership for the Future (UNDP-PFF) and respectively the Church of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot EVKAF Administration on 31 January 2013, the Turkish Cypriot side has decided to contribute TL 2.5 million (1.07 million euro) for the restoration of Apostolos Andreas monastery.
Following an announcement that the TRNC would be going ahead with the restoration of Apostolos Andreas monastery in the Karpas, funded by Turkey, in April, the Church of Cyprus finally decided that it would pay 2.5 million euro towards the first phase of a three stage restoration process; the total cost is estimated at 6 million euro.
