Minister Olgun Amcaoglu from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), along with Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gurcan and Rifat Hisarciklioglu, President of Türkiye’s Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB), recently participated in the Türkiye-TRNC Second Economy Conference. Türkiye newspaper reports.
This event was organised by the Türkiye-TRNC Chamber of Commerce Forum.
During the conference, Gurcan highlighted the significant trade achievement of $2.5 billion with the TRNC in 2023. He expressed the goal of not only increasing trade volume in the coming years but also expanding the TRNC’s share in this trade.
Gurcan underscored their commitment to seeking international recognition of the independence and sovereignty of Turkish Cypriots, acknowledging the longstanding injustices they have faced.
The primary focus of their efforts, Gurcan emphasised, lies in safeguarding the existence, freedom, and future of the Turkish Cypriot community. They aim to strengthen all institutions and bodies in the TRNC through collaborative initiatives.
Furthermore, Gurcan stressed their intent to strengthen the economic ties between the two countries, reflecting the deep-rooted bonds of brotherhood. Their overarching objective is to accelerate the socio-economic development of Cyprus.
He also highlighted the agreements reached during the Türkiye-TRNC Joint Committee 12th Term Meeting in January, which encompassed cooperation in various sectors such as trade, customs, e-commerce, product safety, human resources, free zones, health, and legal infrastructure.
The “Türkiye-TRNC Chamber of Commerce Forum” is dedicated to enhancing bilateral trade and investment relations, as well as improving the investment climate. Hisarciklioglu reiterated their support for TRNC’s integration efforts on the global stage and their advocacy for TRNC’s representation in international organisations.
