You Tube has also found itself banned in Turkey as of today – 27th March. The ban came into effect only hours after leaked recordings of a vital security meeting about Syria, allegedly involving Turkish intelligence chief Hakan Fidan, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and others were published on the website.
Turkey’s Telecommunication Directorate (TIB) has used its new authority for the first time by blocking You tube without a court order, following the passing of a bill in February, which allows the telecommunications regulator to block websites without legal recourse.
TIB stated that the ban was a “precautionary administrative measure.”
Turkey previously banned YouTube in 2007, but lifted the ban three years later.
