President Dervis Eroglu has said that Turkish energy company TPAO will continue its seismic survey operations in the region “within the framework of the licenses given by the Turkish Government” ‘Famagusta Gazette’ reports.
Eroglu said that the Greek Cypriots had carried out “unilateral activities” in the name of the ‘Republic of Cyprus’.
He said that President Anastasiades “has once more disrupted the multisided efforts towards resuming the negotiations” under the leadership of the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser to Cyprus Espen Barth Eide.
President Anastasiades maintained that it was impossible for him to participate in reunification talks as long as Turkey violated the Republic’s sovereignty.
Turkey issued a new NAVTEX (notice to mariners) on Tuesday saying that it would be conducting seismic surveys inside (South) Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone.
In October a similar NAVTEX was issued by Turkey, prompting the Greek Cypriot president to walk away from the Cyprus negotiations.
