Turkey is delaying its approval for UN Secretary-General’s personal envoy Jane Lute to arrive in Cyprus to help resume the Cyprus talks.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, Ankara is holding off until the early June 24 elections are completed.
Reportedly, a well-informed source has said that Greece and the UK have already agreed to Lute’s assignment to the task of finding ways to re-kindle the talks which collapsed in July 2017. Lute is expected to be meeting the two Cypriot communities’ representatives and the three guarantor powers.
However, there is a deadline since the UN Secretary-General must produce his report on the peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) by June 15.
