The Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has added his voice to other leading Turkish figures.
In a speech yesterday, he said that South Cyprus now had a new leader and that if Mr Anastasiades was willing to open up the peace process, he would find that Turkey would be more than willing to respond. He was putting this forward in a positive sense.
Mr Davutoglu said that in the latter stages of the ex-president Christofias regime, the peace process had slowed down and lost its way. Turkey had been constructive and would continue to be so.
Turkey believes that there can be a solution, based on equal rights, but the important thing was that the other side also believed in this. If Anastasiades follows this policy, momentum will be gained he added.
