Turkey makes last minute payment to North Cyprus

In an eleventh hour move, Turkey has sent to 62.5 million Turkish Lira to the TRNC, enabling the government to pay its civil servants their 13th month salary.

According to Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Diyalog’, the money was sent to the North by order of the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, responsible for Cyprus Affairs, Turgul Turkes.

Turkey delayed the payment because the TRNC had not fulfilled conditions – making economic reforms, agreed in the last economic protocol between itself and Turkey, which led to the latest protocol remaining unsigned.
