Turkey plans to scrap visa requirements for Greek Cypriots

Turkey is to abolish visas for Greek Cypriots who wish to visit the mainland. However, this does not mean that Turkey recognises South Cyprus, a Turkish official said on Tuesday.

Following an EU-Turkey agreement, the Turkish government has approved the waiving of visas for EU citizens once visa requirements for Turkish citizens have been relaxed, Turkey’s Official Gazette has announced.

The EU executive is expected to propose implementation of the agreement in an effort to safeguard Turkey’s ongoing cooperation in a wider agreement to halt illegal migration.
