Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika has criticised the statements made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Serdar Denktaş who said that he is comfortable with the 2016-2018 Structural Transformation Programme signed between Turkey and the TRNC.
Denktaş stated further that the programme foresees structural changes in certain institutions that will benefit the country and the people. Referring also to the economic protocol, Denktaş said that it focused mainly on five factors: “The state planning organisation, judiciary, telecommunications, electricity and ports”.
Under the masthead “Hey people, we have been sold”, Afrika notes that on one hand the Cyprus negotiations are taking place, and on the other hand, Turkey gets hold of every institution in the TRNC. According to the paper, the protocol will not only affect the TRNC economically but will affect many other aspects of life as well.
