Local companies are having their ability to function internationally blocked by Turkey. The Turkish Embassy in North Nicosia has ceased to certify international contracts for local businesses, Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Yeni Bakis’ reports.
Any international transactions by TRNC companies are certified by the TRNC certifying officer, the interior ministry and finally by the Turkish embassy.
Technical experts say that local businesses will suffer financially with this latest move. It will also force them to cooperate with businesses in the South.
The newspaper wonders if this development, which took place shortly after the failure of the Cyprus negotiations in Crans-Montana, Switzerland in July, is part of Turkey’s ‘Plan B’.
