Turkish Airlines (THY) has hired a Greek Cypriot pilot for the first time, according to a report by Greek Cypriot daily ‘Phileleftheros’. The paper has interpreted this action as a step forward by Turkey in recognising the Greek Cypriot administration as a legitimate state.
Following the financial crisis at Cyprus Airways, six Greek Cypriot pilots who lost their jobs had applied to work with Turkey’s national air carrier, THY. After a long delay in response to the application, one of six applications has been successful and THY signed a five-year contract with the 60-year-old Greek Cypriot pilot.
‘Phileleftheros’ added that there are 20 mainland Greek pilots working for THY.
