Turkish Cypriot Football Federation issues ultimatum

The head of the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation (KTFF) has decided to apply for membership of the Greek Cypriot Football Federation (KOP) in a bid to stop its players from signing contracts with foreign teams, namely Turkey, without any fees.

The federation which represents 42 Turkish Cypriot football teams has issued at 45 day deadline for Turkish and Turkish Cypriot officials to solve its financial problems. If no solution is found then KTFF proposes to apply to join the Cyprus Football Association (KOP) irrespective of the continuing political situation in Cyprus.

Arslan Bıçaklı, the head of a Turkish Cypriot workers’ union, said officials on both sides of the island could sign a protocol, as is the case in many other issues, to help the Turkish Cypriot side integrate into the world football system.
