Turkish Cypriots Add Five Billion Pounds to UK Economy

Turkish Cypriots living in the UK annually contribute five billion pounds sterling to the British economy, chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce in the UK, Muhammet Yasarata has stated.

He added that that figure exceeds the annual gross national product of the TRNC.

Addressing a panel organised by the Chamber, Yasarata further added that the number of Turkish Cypriots living in the UK has reached 300,000 and said that their total assets were approximately 50 billion pounds sterling.

The UK is the home of the Turkish Cypriots living here. Our biggest wish as Turkish Cypriots who live in the UK is to approach and reach a fair solution on issues related to the solution of the Cyprus problem”, Yasarata said, adding he could not possibly understand the violation of Turkish Cypriots’ human rights in Cyprus at a time when the Brexit discussions continue.

Yasarata said that he was always in favour of the peace process in Cyprus, arguing that the Turkish Cypriot business community wants to make investments in both sides of the island.

He went on to reiterate that the “isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriots harms deeply the confidence and trust between the two communities”.
