President Dervis Eroglu addressing the TRNC Assembly has said that the Turkish Cypriots also have sovereign rights over the territorial waters of Cyprus, ‘Famagusta Gazette’ reports.
Addressing an extraordinary session of the Assembly, Eroglu briefed MPs on the Cyprus problem and the latest stage reached in the Cyprus talks.
During the five hour meeting, he gave them detailed information about the proposals that were submitted by both sides at the negotiating table.
At a press meeting, Eroglu noted that the deputies had expressed their satisfaction on the briefing.
Remarking that he did not know whether or not the Greek Cypriot side would return to the negotiating table, Eroglu said that the Turkish Cypriot side had fulfilled its duty by calling on South Cyprus President Anastasiades to return to the negotiating table.
He added that the Greek Cypriot people had not called upon to their own leader to resume the talks.
President Eroglu noted that it was “an unavoidable fact” that a Turkish vessel would be carrying out seismic explorations offshore Cyprus.
