Turkish Cypriots made strategic error at Mont Pèlerin Summit: Ozersay

Chairman of the People’s Party (HP) and former Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Ozersay, says that the Turkish Cypriot side had made a “strategic mistake” on the territory issue during the Mont Pèlerin negotiations.

In an exclusive interview with Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Havadis’, Ozersay argued that it had been agreed that territory, the map and the numbers would be discussed at the final stage of the negotiations, but the Turkish Cypriot side accepted their discussion in Switzerland and had put itself in an extremely difficult situation. Ozersay said that the Turkish Cypriot side was weakened by discussing territory before the final stage.

He argued: “I think that the negotiations should not continue from the point at which they were left because that point is not a position from which fair negotiations could be conducted, it is a position at which we, as the Turkish Cypriot side, were put at a disadvantage”.
