Turkish Cypriots’ rights being sidelined: Tacoy

Former Minister for Transportation and Communication, and Independent MP Hasan Tacoy, has claimed that although the rights of Turkish Cypriots are being ignored, President Mustafa Akinci is not addressing this in the Cyprus negotiations.

Tacoy called on Akinci not to make any concessions at the negotiating table and said: “By making a concession, another one will appear”. He also said Akinci should not accept and enter into a bargain on the issue of the rotating presidency and cross voting.

Referring to the hydrocarbon exploration activities of South Cyprus, Tacoy said that it is unacceptable that tenders for licenses to international companies to carry out exploration activities around Cyprus are still on offer. “We should react to the hydrocarbon agreements. At the end of the day, this would be used against us and will be the reason to make more concessions”, Tacoy added.

Tacoy also accused the European Union of using Cyprus and several other elements to blackmail Turkey.
