Turkish drilling vessel ‘Yavuz’ is en route to the Güzelyurt-1 well in the Mediterranean Sea to continue oil and gas exploration activities, according to Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez.
“Our drilling vessel ‘Yavuz’ is on a new expedition,” Dönmez wrote on Twitter.
“Yavuz is moving towards the Güzelyurt-1 well where it will drill. We will not stop until we make our underground resources available to our nation,” he added.
According to an issued a Navtex (marine advisory), the ‘Yavuz’ drilling vessel will continue to work in the Mediterranean until January 2020.
Meanwhile, South Cyprus has called on the ‘Yavuz’ and its support vessels to “immediately cease illegal actions” in the South’s EEZ and continental shelf.
On Thursday, South Cyprus issued a Navtex published on the website of the Joint Rescue and Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Larnaca, warning all those working on the ‘Yavuz’ and its supporting vessels that they would face consequences and that an international arrest warrant would be issued against them.
