The Turkish Naval Frigate TCG ‘Gelibolu’ is closely monitoring the SAIPEM 10000 drilling platform, which is test drilling for oil and natural gas in South Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), ‘Yeni Duzen’ reports.’
According to a statement issued by the Turkish Armed Forces, the Turkish frigate has been observing the platform, which is being operated by Eni-Kogas consortium in Bloc 9 of the South’s EEZ, from a distance of five nautical miles (nine kilometres).
The Turkish warship has reportedly executed her duties within the framework of the Mediterranean Shield Operation.
