Turkish judge seeks asylum in Greece

A Turkish judge seeking asylum, landed on the Greek island of Chios early on Tuesday morning.

He arrived on the island on a boat which was carrying six Syrian refugees, the coast guard said.

The fifty year old judge wants to apply for asylum and was referred to a prosecutor on charges of illegally entering the country.

According to Greek media, the man will be transferred to Athens for his asylum process.

Several groups, either linked to the Gulenist FETO movement or involved in the 15th July coup attempt in Turkey have fled to Greece to seek asylum.

Since the attempted coup, Turkey has sacked or suspended around 80,000 people from the civil service, judiciary, police forces and courts.
