Turkish opposition asks question on water pollution

A report in Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika says that the Republican People’s Party Deputy in Mersin (CHP) Fikri Saglar, submitted a parliamentary question, about the pollution of water supplied by Turkey to North Cyprus.

He is asking Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to confirm if the allegations by Turgut Aybak chairman of the Mersin Waterworks Authority (MESKI) were true. He asked also for clarification as to why officials did not take measures to prevent this.

Aybak recently stated that due to an infrastructural problem, untreated wastewater from three neighbourhoods in Mersin’s Anamur district was deposited into the Alakopru dam reservoir which supplies water via undersea pipeline to the TRNC.
