Turkish president repeats offer to supply South with water

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeated his offer to supply South Cyprus with water transferred by pipeline from south Turkey.

Speaking at the meeting of Ministries Responsible for Water issues at the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) he said, inter alia, that Turkey had covered the TRNC’s potable and agricultural water needs for the next fifty years.

Pointing out that the water transfer project had cost 550 million dollars, Erdogan reiterated his proposal to the Greek Cypriots, to provide them with water. “Look Greek Cypriots, you occasionally have water shortages and you transfer water with vessels and tankers. We have said that we can provide water to south Cyprus as well and with this process be able to carry out a peace project. There is no demand at the moment but we have done our part”, Erdogan stated.
