Two Founding States Under a Federal Umbrella: Ozersay

Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Ozersay met with the newly appointed Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide on Saturday, Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Vatan’ reports.

According to the Turkish Cypriot news agency TAK, after Saturday’s meeting Ozersay expressed satisfaction with Eide’s focussed approach to his new duties as Special Advisor and stressed that no more time should be wasted.

Ozersay added that he had the opportunity to explain to Eide, Turkish Cypriot sensitivities regarding some of the issues arising from UN parameters.

He said that they had also discussed what steps should be taken to achieve a result in the negotiations. It would be well worth the effort to create a mutually agreed road map which would guide the steps towards a solution, he suggested.

Ozersay said that the Turkish Cypriot side thinks a tripartite meeting with both leaders and the UN Secretary-General in New York would be very useful in light of the current stage of the negotiation process.
