According to an opinion poll conducted by Freebirds Polar regarding the local elections, the National Unity Party (UBP) candidate Hasan Sertoglu is leading the race for Lefkoşa municipality with 33.2%, followed by the current mayor of Lefkoşa and candidate for the Communal Democracy Party (TDP) Mehmet Harmanci with 29.1%. The candidate for the Democratic Party (DP) Gencay Eroglu is third with 18.5%.
According to the poll, 8.1% of the people who took part in the poll, stated that they are undecided and Kibris newspaper notes that this could determine the outcome of the local elections. Meanwhile 7.1% stated that they will not be voting.
The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) supports Mayor Harmanci. Voting will take place on 24 June.
