The UBP party announced yesterday that it would hold its general conference on August 31st.
Initially the leader of the party and ex-Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk had set a date of mid-October.
It is claimed that he had wanted time to work out how he could lead his party even though he holds no seat in parliament having failed to be re-elected in the recently held elections.
He then began manoeuvering within the party, including sacking potential competitors for his job.
However, given a strong adverse reaction by party members and a hostile press, he has now brought forward the conference date and confirmed that he will be resigning during its session.
