Electrical workers’ union El-Sen has accused the government of hindering a drop in electricity prices, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.
A reduction in the cost of electricity had been proposed two weeks ago by Kib-Tek, however Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu, claims that the reduction was insufficient and a greater one was to be put in place.
According to ‘Havadis’, the Chairman of El-Sen Cağlayan Cesurer said that the government was deliberately blocking the price reduction by delaying the Council of Ministers’ meeting.
The Prime Minister immediately refuted the accusation saying that the price reduction was inadequate and that the government was planning to reduce electricity prices even further in line with the drop in oil prices worldwide.
He added that they also had a plan to use the difference in cost, left by falling oil prices in the international markets, to raise funds to install a filter at Kib-Tek’s Teknecik power plant.
