The protest action initiated by the Animal Producers Union has developed into a broader social struggle, Yeniduzen reports.
During a meeting between the Livestock Breeders’ Union and various unions, a warning of a “general strike” was issued.
President of the Federation of Free Trade Unions of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (HÜR-İŞ), Ahmet Serdaroğlu, speaking on behalf of the unions after the meeting, announced that they have given the UBP – YDP – DP government a deadline until Friday.
If the decision to import frozen meat is not revoked by then, they will exercise all their democratic rights, including initiating a general strike, starting on Monday.
The unions supporting the livestock farmers and threatening a general strike are as follows: KTAMS, KTÖS, KTOEÖS, EL-SEN, HÜR-İŞ, DEV-İŞ, TÜRK-SEN, BES, and KOOP-SEN.
