UNSG Guterres arrived in Crans-Montana today

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana this morning to chair the third day of the Conference on Cyprus.

According to ‘Cyprus Weekly’ the UNSG will try to unpick the knot of the security and guarantees chapter, bridge differences on other aspects such as rotating presidency for the federal state and the thorny issue of EU ‘four freedoms’.

All these issues created a minor crisis on Thursday, hindering progress at the conference.

UN Special Envoy to Cyprus Espen Barth Eide was scheduled to meet the two leaders Nicos Anastasiades and Mustafa Akinci separately on Friday morning, before a smaller meeting at the Conference on Cyprus reconvenes at 11.30am Cyprus time, with the UN Secretary General heading the meeting.
