The head of the Human Rights Committee at the Bar Association, Aslı Murat has consistently drawn attention to the disturbingly frequent rate of fatal traffic accidents, stressing the urgency for updating traffic laws, Kibris Postasi reports.
Murat emphasised the need to ensure that legal measures regarding traffic accidents leading to loss of life or injury are not standardised.
In response to the recent surge in fatal traffic accidents, Aslı Murat posted her comments on social media. In it, she highlighted her belief in the need to revise traffic legislation, emphasising that any proposed measures should extend beyond mere increases in penalties.
Murat has emphasised the need to overhaul the existing legal framework governing traffic accidents resulting in fatalities or injuries. She argues there needs to be a shift away from ‘one size fits all’ regulations to something more tailored that accounts for various factors. According to Murat, simply imposing punishments is insufficient; there is an urgent need to increase awareness of the outcomes of deliberate, irresponsible actions masked as ‘accidents’ and to foster greater public awareness.
She concludes by asserting that true justice demands nothing less.
