US Ambassador to Cyprus John M. Koenig participated in a conference titled “US policy in the Eastern Mediterranean” on May 15, at the Eastern Mediterranean University (DAU).
Speaking to an audience of students and academicians, Ambassador Koenig pointed to the cooperation between US and Turkey, while he was giving them a brief on the US policy in the eastern Mediterranean. He also stressed the joint working areas of Turkey and USA like the problem of Syria and the embargoes imposed on Iran due to the nuclear programme.
He also commented on the Cyprus problem. Stressing the importance of finding an urgent solution for the Cyprus problem, for the two communities, who live in the island, for Turkey and the USA, Ambassador said that the US is ready to give any kind of support that will bring a joint solution for both sides playing an active role in the Cyprus settlement.
Prior to the conference, during a meeting with the dean of DAU, Prof. Dr Abdullah Y. Oztoprak, the US Ambassador said that the university should be proud for having students from 75 different countries and wished them continuing success.
