Water project complete by year’s end

The TRNC’s Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources, Hamit Bakirci, has said that the work to transfer water to the TRNC from the Alakopru Dam, Mersin district will be completed by the end of the year.

Technical problems and bad weather have put back the completion date of this ambitious project.

The first kilometre of pipeline was laid in December 2013 in the $484 million project, backed by Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan, to supply water to the TRNC via an 80-kilometer (50-mile) pipeline to be suspended as far as 280 meters (919 feet) under water.
