Water project will be an historical landmark: Veysel Eroglu

Turkey’s Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Veysel Eroglu said: “God willing, this year will be historical from every point of view for Cyprus”.

During a meeting in Ankara with the TRNC’s Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Hamit Bakirci, Eroglu said that his Ministry would give every support to the TRNC. He said that the main sections of the TRNC water supply project have been completed and the Alakopru dam in Turkey, as well as the Gecitkoy have been built.

Referring to the installation of water pipelines, Eroglu said that the works will be completed soon, adding that within the year, 75 million cubic meters of water will be transferred to the TRNC from Turkey. The water will be transferred to Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia and Dipkarpaz.

Bakirci, for his part, confirmed that Turkey has given the TRNC full technical support for this project. He repeated that if conditions permit, the project is expected to be completed on 20th July.
