Yesilkoy villagers protest

The villagers of Yesilkoy have been protesting in front of their local Co-op bank barricading the front of the building. Police have been called in to break up the demonstration.

The cause of the villagers concern is the sacking of the Co-op bank manager, Mentes Uyguner and his replacement by Hasan Ki. They want the old boss back.

It appears that the protest was initially started by friends and family of Mr Uyguner, but has spread to other villagers as well.

Yesterday, Mr Uyguner repeatedly attempted to enter the Co-op building and was eventually arrested by police for intentional damage.

Supporters of Mr Uyguner, who has held his post for many years and was sacked without a reason, say that his replacement was politically motivated.
