The boat was lying 500 metres offshore Çatalköy. At around 11.30 am, 19-year-old Ahmet Deniz Tabakoğlu, a resident of Karşıyaka, jumped into the sea from the boat.
His friend found his body floating motionless in the water. Ahmet was taken to Dr. Akçiçek Hospital in Kyrenia, however, medical staff were unable to revive him.
The post mortem determined that he had died by drowning.
A police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
He will be buried in Karşıyaka cemetery after the noon prayer today.
