Zero Waste Marathon Breaks Record

Zero waste garbage collection project

The Zero Waste Garbage Collection Marathon, held under the sponsorship of the Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, along with the Youth Federation, continued with the Famagusta stage, Kibris Postasi reported.

The marathon was initiated in an attempt to raise environmental awareness in the general population.

Fifteen teams competed in this stage, which was organised in cooperation with the Environmental Protection Department, Famagusta Youth Union, and Iskele Youth Association.

During the one-hour event, participants collected a record-breaking 917 kilos of rubbish across various categories.

The marathon will conclude on May 25th, with the Lefke stage in the morning and the Güzelyurt stage in the evening.

An award ceremony will take place on June 5th, as part of the World Environment Day celebrations, at the Kyrenia Tourism Port.

The initiative known as the “Zero Waste Garbage Collection Marathon” was launched at the Kyrenia Boğaz Picnic site on Sunday May 6, when enthusiastic volunteers collected 200 kilos of plastic waste and glass.
