A Civil Defence Disaster Management and Response Exercise 2018 began on Wednesday.
This year the scenario was rehearsing a response to a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in the Lefke-Gemikonağı region. Sirens will be heard simultaneously throughout the whole of the north of the island during the two-day exercises.
In line with the exercise, the Prime Ministry will receive information about the magnitude of the earthquake from the Meteorology Department and then will carry out disaster management drills together with the district governors and the disaster management centre, mobilising all units and directing them to the Lefke and Güzelyurt area.
Bayrak Radio Television Corporation and regional journalists together with the meteorology department personnel, will be getting into contact with one another in order to properly inform the public.
The exercises continue today.
