Planning Law Upsets Famagusta Businessmen

North Cyprus News - Aysegul BaybarsA decree regarding the Famagusta districts of Yeni Iskele and Yeni Boğaziçi aiming at planned development, has been prepared by the Ministry of the Interior. The decree sets a limit to the number of floors permitted in the construction of new buildings in those areas and the total prohibition of building in certain areas.

Meanwhile, the degree created tension amongst the Famagusta business community, who described the move as “political”. A briefing on the decree had to be postponed until tempers cooled.

During a parliamentary briefing, Minister of the Interior Ayşegül Baybars explained that the decree had been prepared to prevent arbitrary and unplanned development. The decree would come into effect until a development plan was ready. A development plan would be put in place at the end of 2019, she noted.
