A friendly football match between a Turkish Cypriot team and a Greek Cypriot team will be held in the UN buffer zone tomorrow afternoon.
The match will take place in the mixed-community village of Pile.
The friendly, organised by the Monaco-based Peace and Sport organisation will be played between Mağusa Türk Gücü (MTG) and Nea Salamina. Watching the match will be vice-president of Peace and Sport, former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. Also attending the match will be Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.
The two football teams won a bi-communal award last year given by the Stelios Charitable Foundation.
President Mustafa Akinci and President Nicos Anastasiades have both said that they will attend the match.
The last match of this kind was played in March 2005 when Nea Salamina and Yenicami teams played together in Famagusta.
The event is part of the Monaco-based Peace and Sport organisation’s ongoing efforts to use sport as a conduit for diplomacy and dialogue around the world.
