No Use in Re-Hashing Cyprus Talks: Ozersay

North Cyprus News - Kudret OzersayThere is no point re-opening negotiations based on a federal Cyprus, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay has said. He also said that President Akinci should not pursue negotiations based on the same federal lines.

Ozersay told TAK new agency that it was clear that there was no change in mindset on the Greek Cypriot side. They did not want to share political administration, offshore hydrocarbons or anything else, Ozersay said.

North-Cyprus-News-Akinci-AnastasiadesThe foreign minister pointed out that looking at the notes from the latest meeting held by the two Cypriot community leaders Mustafa Akinci and Nicos Anastasiades, there was no indication by Anastasiades of any agreement to share natural resources. Therefore, it made no sense to attempt yet another round of Cyprus talks, based on the same parameters, only to confine us to a vicious circle, he said.

Pointing to the last round of Cyprus negotiations, the Greek Cypriot side did not want to share the administration, nor did it show any change in mentality, leading to the collapse of the talks negotiations at Crans-Montana, Switzerland in 2017, said Ozersay.

UN officials and UN Special Representative Jane Holl Lute have also seen that there is no change and President Akinci should not pursue the same path again. It is not in the best interests of this country to do so, he added.

The right thing to do now is to talk about what kind of solution or partnership could be established in Cyprus, which is not a federal partnership, he said.
