The police have released details about an accident that occurred last night on the Karpaz-Yenierenköy road, which resulted in the death of Münür Ekşi (20), who was riding a motorcycle at the time, Kibris Postasi reports.
They also reported that one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to the report, at around 8pm on Friday, near Türet Market on the Yenierenköy-Dipkarpaz main road, Mehmet Özaltınok (35), who was driving a van entered the main road without giving way to traffic. At the same time, Münür Ekşi, who was riding his motorcycle towards Dipkarpaz-Yenierenköy, swerved to avoid the van, lost control and veered to the right side of the road, colliding with an electric pole and falling off his motorcycle.
Despite all efforts by medical staff at Famagusta State Hospital, Ekşi, who was seriously injured, could not be saved and succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the van, Mehmet Özaltınok, has been arrested.
A police investigation into the accident is ongoing.
