Approximately 40 tourism agencies operating in the German market, in collaboration with SunExpress Airlines, recently visited the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to participate in a workshop organised jointly by the TRNC Deputy Prime Ministry for Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, and the Cyprus Turkish Tourism and Travel Agencies Association (KITSAB), Kibris Postasi reported.
The workshop took place at the Acapulco Hotel, where KITSAB Vice President Oğuz Akançay emphasised the importance of SunExpress expanding its flights, which began a year ago from Izmir, to now include Antalya and Mersin.
Highlighting the significant contribution of SunExpress to TRNC tourism, Akançay noted that the airline operates two daily flights from Izmir and Antalya to Cyprus, with connections to London, Germany, and other European cities. He underscored the importance of recent discussions with SunExpress officials to further expand this network. “We have received commitments from SunExpress to explore additional destinations,” Akançay said, stressing the need to increase the number of flight slots at Izmir and Antalya airports to enable connections to many European cities via Cyprus.
Akançay added, “If we can secure more slots at Izmir and Antalya airports to facilitate easier flights to Europe, this will create fantastic opportunities for our country’s tourism. We have agreed with SunExpress to collaborate on providing access from Cyprus to all European countries.”
