A meeting was held at the Presidential Palace to discuss preparations regarding the agreement reached between the two sides to clear a total of 18 minefields, nine each.
The decision was taken by the two Cypriot community leaders as a confidence-building measure when they met on 26 February.
The meeting chaired by President Mustafa Akinci was attended by the Commander of the Turkish Peace Force in Cyprus Major General Yilmaz Yildirim, the Commander of the Turkish Cypriot Security Forces Brigadier General Tevfik Algan, Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay, the Presidential Undersecretary Gurdal Hudaoglu and President Akinci’s Secuity Adviser Halil Sadrazam.
President Akinci was informed at the meeting that de-mining work was progressing in collaboration with UN officials.
A statement issued at the end of day’s meeting said that the Turkish Cypriot side was ready for the implementation of all CBMs agreed on the 26 February with the completion of the meeting on de-mining.
