Aydın Denktaş, the wife of founding President Rauf Denktaş was laid to rest this morning. Mrs Denktaş , who was 86, died in hospital from multiple organ failure on Satuday,
Following the funeral prayers at the Selimiye Mosque in Nicosia at noon,
Aydın Denktaş was buried at the Nicosia Cemetery, next to the grave of her son Raif Denktaş, who died in a road traffic accident in 1985.
Mrs Denktaş had been receiving treatment at the Dr Burhan Nalbantoglu State Hospital.
President Mustafa Akıncı, Speaker of the TRNC Assembly Teberrüken Uluçay, Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, ministers, government and state officials and MPs attended the funeral service.
Representing Turkey at the funeral were, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay and the Secretary- General of the AK Party-Ankara MP Fatih Sahin.
