The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Bankers Association has warned citizens to be cautious of scammers who present themselves as “experts in global stock markets” and claim to provide investment advisory services, Yeniduzen reports.
The association reported that recently, scammers have emerged who introduce themselves as “experts in global stock markets“, claim to offer investment advisory services to take advantage of investment opportunities, and allege to represent actual or fictitious companies by using their names.
In a written statement from the Bankers Association, it was noted that these scammers, even if the person they contact rejects their supposed service offer, persistently send messages to their phone numbers, attempting to persuade the targeted individuals by labelling them as “attractive investment opportunities“.
The statement explained that these individuals, using phone numbers obtained from various databases, call people with different scenarios to get them to transfer money to the alleged company accounts they represent, thus attempting fraud. The recommended actions in such situations are as follows:
“Never send your money to the accounts they tell you. Under no circumstances should you give these individuals your identity information, bank account details, or passwords if requested.
Do not allow them to keep you occupied on the phone. Do not follow their instructions.
Hang up the phone and immediately call the 155 Police Emergency line or the nearest police station.
If you have sent money, promptly inform the police by calling the police station without delay.
Always remember that no legitimate and lawful investment advisory company will call you to provide information or market their services“.
