Democratic Party (DP) leader Serdar Denktash has announced that he is resigning from his post as leader of the DP, following a meeting with the party assembly in Nicosia District Building. Denktash stated that the Secretary-General had taken over the interim chairmanship until the party congress on 30 November.
Update: Havadis (10.09.19) reports that Denktash stated that he said several times that he will resign from the leadership of DP and added that he resigned in order to give the chance to other persons who want to be candidates for this post. “I do not want to be the Eroglu in my party“, he stated. Asked about the possibility of being a candidate in the 2020 presidential elections, Denktash said that he had not decided on the issue yet and added that his decision to resign was taken for the reasons he gave above.
