Turkish Minister of Energy Fatih Donmez has said that the Turkish drillship ‘Yavuz’ has completed its drilling offshore Karpaz and is in Mersin preparinging for its next operation. He did not say, however, where that would be.
Donmez, who was speaking to NTV television, stated that Turkey’s first drillship ‘Fatih’ is continuing its operations offshore Guzelyurt/Morphou.
He stated that they are in favour of a fair sharing of the hydrocarbon sources in the island and that they will contribute with the process as a guarantor country if this is needed.
“The Greek Cypriot administration continues to act as if it is the sole owner of the island. We will continue our operations on our own continental shelf and in the areas that the TRNC has granted licence”, he stated.
Update: The ‘Yavuz’ is apparently headed to the same area off Paphos, where another Turkish drillship, the ‘Fatih’ is carrying out natural gas exploration, it emerged on Thursday.
According to MarineTraffic, the ‘Yavuz’ was about four nautical miles from the ‘Fatih’ on Thursday morning.
