Driver Refuses to Take Breath Test

Two people were injured, one of whom suffered bone fractures, in an accident that occurred in the early hours on the Iskele – Famagusta main road. The driver was arrested for refusing to provide sufficient breath and blood samples for an alcohol test, Yeniduzen reports.

According to information from the Police Press Office, at around 1am today on the Iskele – Famagusta highway, 27-year-old Fırat Yapıcıoğlu lost control of his vehicle while driving south. As he approached the Lions Garden roundabout, his carelessness caused him to lose control of the steering, hit the curb, go off the road, and fall down a 4-metre-deep embankment. The vehicle caught fire after the accident and was completely burned, rendering it unusable.

The injured driver and 25-year-old Asena Menteş, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were taken to Famagusta State Hospital for treatment. Ms. Menteş was admitted to the Orthopaedic ward for treatment of fractures in her right hip and left collarbone. Fırat Yapıcıoğlu was discharged after receiving first aid treatment.

The driver, Fırat Yapıcıoğlu, was arrested for refusing to provide sufficient breath and blood samples for an alcohol test. The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
