The Greek Cypriot press extensively covered UN Secretary-General’s Personal Representative for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin’s meeting with leaders and their statements, Kibris Postasi reports.

Despite President Ersin Tatar’s rejection of a tripartite meeting, Holguin is determined to continue efforts on the Cyprus issue.

Holguin prefers to pressure leaders to sit at the same table and contribute to unlocking the negotiation process.

A tripartite or multilateral meeting is seen as Holguin’s and the UN’s primary goal.

After completing her meetings in Cyprus, Holguin will return to New York to prepare a report for the UN Secretary-General, including input from civil society and citizens.

Greek Cypriot government sources argue that Holguin’s efforts stumbled due to the Turkish side’s constant rejection.

Greek Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides has shown a constructive attitude towards efforts to appoint a personal representative.

Disagreements between the two sides were confirmed after Holguin’s meetings yesterday.

Holguin will meet with Greek Foreign Minister George Yeropetridis in Athens today.

Greek Cypriot Government Spokesperson Constantinos Letimbiotis reiterated their intentions for a tripartite meeting and emphasised the importance of dialogue in resolving concerns.

Letimbiotis stated that efforts are aimed at creating conditions for the resumption of negotiations, including confidence-building measures and positive initiatives.

He described the meeting between Christodoulides and Holguin as constructive.
