A two-man accident investigation team arrived from Turkey on Wednesday to inspect the remains of the light aircraft which crashed near the runway at Geçitkale Airport on Tuesday.
Two flight instructors, Serkan Özcezarlı and Hakan Çetinkaya, who were on board the aircraft, died in the crash. The team accompanied by members of the TRNC Civil Aviation Department visited the scene.
Following three days of examining the debris, a preliminary report will be prepared. A detailed technical report is expected to be ready within a month.
Minister of Public Works and Transportation Tolga Atakan said yesterday that there had been no witnesses to the accident and the flight control tower had not received any emergency calls from the pilots while they were flying.
The body of one of the flight instructors, Hakan Çetinkaya, was was flown to his home town of Izmir on Wednesday.
A memorial ceremony will be held at the airport today.
