“A meeting was held with T&T officials today, and an agreement was reached on the restructuring of the debts”, the statement read.
The statement noted that a meeting took place today between T&T officials and the Turkish Cypriot Electricity Authority regarding Ercan Airport’ debts to Kib-Tek, operated by T&T company. An agreement was reached to restructure these debts.
“Ercan Airport is public property, and its interests will be safeguarded in line with the public’s interests”.
The statement further explained that, considering the high traffic expected at Ercan Airport ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha, it would not be prudent to cut off the airport’s electricity. This decision aims to avoid inconveniencing both the public and visitors to the island, based on the commitment given by T&T company.
The statement concluded by affirming that Kib-Tek management will take all necessary actions and will monitor the process closely.
Yesterday, it was reported that President of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Employees Union (El-Sen), Ahmet Tuğcu, had repeated the union’s threat to disconnect the electricity supply to Ercan Airport, operated by T&T Company which is managed by Emrullah Turanlı, due to a debt of 92 million TL owed to the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kib-Tek), Kibris Postasi reports. Tuğcu stressed that Turanlı must settle at least 63 million TL of the debt to Kib-Tek immediately to avoid the cutoff.
Meanwhile, in a separate report by Kibris Postasi, Ahmet Tuğcu, Chairman of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Employees Union (El-Sen), issued a written statement expressing his reaction to the restructuring of the 92 million TL electricity debt owed by Ercan Airport, which is operated by T&T Company.
El-Sen Chairman Tuğcu stated, “Kib-Tek management may agree with Emrullah Turanlı, but we do not! We were astonished to read the statement made by the Turkish Cypriot Electricity Authority regarding Ercan Airport. Today, an agreement was reached with T&T company officials about restructuring Ercan’s debts. Therefore, the decision taken by El-Sen to cut off the airport’s electricity on June 14 (today) on behalf of the public if the 92 million TL debt is not paid ‘has no meaning.’ The Kib-Tek statement is a complete comedy“, he said.
