Local Councils Say Property Tax Must Increase

Councils will have to raise property tax or face a financial crisis in local government.

Local mayors have warned that without a tax rise, council services will deteriorate and workers will go unpaid.

The government withdrew a 14 per cent increase on property tax nine months ago, after there was an uproar about it being imposed retrospectively. Now councils are saying the tax rise should be imposed to increase their income.
